MEP engineering for the phased renovation of Kaplan Arena and construction of the Mackesy Sports Performance Center featuring practice courts, training and sports medicine spaces, and upgraded arena facilities, including lobby, seating, and support areas. The design integrates new and existing systems to meet energy and budget goals and coordinates performance across buildings.
The project includes both the renovation of the existing Kaplan Arena and the construction of a new, state-of-the-art Mackesy Sports Performance Center. The SPC features full-size basketball and volleyball practice courts, sports medicine and hydrotherapy areas, and strength and conditioning spaces. Upgrades to the arena include a new entrance and lobby, academic support areas, modernized seating and hospitality zones, and enhanced locker room and restroom facilities.
2RW began with a comprehensive MEP assessment to evaluate existing infrastructure and identify opportunities for reuse. Our innovative design integrates new and refurbished systems with existing components to meet W&M’s energy efficiency and budget goals. We are also coordinating new MEP systems in the SPC with those in the arena to ensure seamless performance and operational efficiency. Careful planning and phased coordination will allow the arena to remain fully operational throughout construction, minimizing disruption to university programs and events.
The revitalized Kaplan Arena and new Mackesy SPC will elevate W&M Athletics by providing student-athletes and coaches with first-class training environments, improving operational efficiency, and delivering a professional-quality fan experience.
