University of Virginia

Sustainability

LEED Silver

Timeframe

2008 – 2010

The addition was one of the first two buildings to be LEED certified at the University.  It has a highly efficient climate control system with energy recovery and humidification, a flat roof with a white rubberized surface that reduces heating and cooling needs, skylights to introduce more natural light into the building, daylight harvesting light controls, and enhanced building envelope insulation.

Project Goals

A 15,000-SF single story addition was designed to meet the University of Virginia’s growing print, graphic design, and mailing service demands. It was designed with sustainable features throughout the building.

Services

2RW’s work for the addition included:

  • Preparation of thorough heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, plumbing and electrical bridging documents for design/build bidding. Documents were near-complete construction documents and included all of the high-performance features required in the final construction package.
  • LEED consulting, energy modeling, and commissioning throughout the design/build process.
