2RW provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering for the SHW Group office renovation in Richmond, VA. The project transformed an existing office space to support updated workplace needs with modern building systems that improve environmental comfort, energy performance, and integration with the interior layout to enhance day to day operations.

Project Goals

SHW Group (acquired by Stantec in 2014) was an interdisciplinary A/E firm of architects, engineers, and planners with eight offices and 250 team members. The firm focused on studying, defining, and creating environments that incorporated green building strategies and sustainable performance levels. SHW Group wanted to reflect its commitment to green building performance and LEED accreditation with a sustainable renovation of its Charlottesville office building.

Services

2RW provided sustainable MEP design which incorporated low-flow plumbing fixtures and daylight harvesting measures.
2RW also performed LEED Fundamental commissioning which verified that the energy-efficient systems were installed and being operated properly to maximize the intended sustainability benefits which included enhanced indoor air and lighting quality, increased energy efficiency, and lower operating costs.

These sustainability focused features and services contributed to the building achieving a LEED Gold CI (Commercial Interiors) certification.

Results

The combination of SHW’s sustainable architectural design and 2RW’s energy efficient system design achieved company’s mission and maximized energy efficiency, cost effectiveness, and LEED potential of the building’s energy systems.
