Project Goals

2RW was selected by the City of Lynchburg to conduct energy audits and pre-commissioning services for its City Hall, Human Services, and main public library buildings. These projects were financed through an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) the city received from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Services

2RW conducted comprehensive energy audits and identified a variety of energy and water conservation measures (ECMs). These included HVAC and automation control retro-commissioning; constant-volume to variable-volume system conversions; lighting fixture upgrades; HVAC system replacements; and water-conserving fixture upgrades.

2RW was then retained to provide a variety of MEP design and assessment services, including:

  • Circuit Court and City Armory boiler replacements
  • City Hall controls replacement and commissioning and multi-zone air handling units (AHUs) to variable air volume (VAV) conversion
  • City Museum temperature and humidity conditions assessment and retro-commissioning
  • Human Services Building boiler and water heater replacement
  • Main Public Library lighting replacement in preservation stacks and HVAC and motor control center replacement and commissioning
  • Monument Terrace chiller, boiler, controls, and air handling unit replacement and commissioning

Results

The recommended improvements create a more comfortable environment for building occupants and results in cost and energy savings.
