2RW provided MEP/FP engineering for the comprehensive renovation of Alumnae Hall at James Madison University, updating this historic academic building to support modern teaching and learning. The scope included replacement and modernization of MEP/FP systems to improve energy performance, comfort, and reliability while maintaining the building’s historic character. Upgrades accommodated current code requirements, enhanced HVAC ventilation and controls, updated electrical distribution and lighting, and renewed plumbing infrastructure. The result is a revitalized facility that supports student success with efficient, resilient building systems integrated into an updated academic environment.

Project Goals

Alumnae Hall, built in 1922, was originally a dorm then adapted later to house the University administration and president’s office. The project, which began with an elevator installation, grew to a comprehensive renovation to better serve the needs of the University and bring the building up to code.

Services

The renovation of this historic building modernized the building and systems, brought the building up to code to meet accessibly standards, and provided additional meeting space. 2RW provided MEP engineering for this project, which included:

Relocation of MEP systems in the lower level and replacement of MEP systems on the main and upper levels of the building
Renovation and expansion of administrative offices and a conference room
Addition of a restroom
Addition of a machine room-less (MRL) elevator
