One Year Later: UVA’s Newest Dorms Deliver Comfort and Efficiency

Nearly a year later, UVA’s newest residence halls are delivering on their promise.

Since students moved into the Gaston and Ramazani Student Residence Halls in August 2024, the two-building complex has provided more than 340 beds, a 300-seat dining facility, and a comfortable, energy-efficient environment—right in the heart of UVA’s sustainable Green Street District.

As the MEP engineer for this LEED Silver-targeted project, 2RW helped implement high-efficiency systems that support both comfort and performance. With preliminary energy modeling indicating an energy use intensity (EUI) of 53 kBtuH/SF/yr for the dormitories ( 32.1% in energy savings over baseline), the buildings are a testament to how thoughtful design contributes to long-term sustainability and student well-being.
