UVA McArthur Squash Center at Boar’s Head Resort Addition and Renovation

The McArthur Squash Center at Boar’s Head Resort is home to the UVA men’s and women’s club squash teams, who compete in the College Squash Association. The center also serves the university community, Boar’s Head Sports Club members, and Boar’s Head Inn guests. UVA aspired to host international squash tournaments and boost program development.

The project added five new singles courts, bringing the total number of courts to 14 singles and two doubles. The multi-functional expansion also features team rooms, study spaces, locker rooms, weight room, and offices.

2RW provided MEP/FP design for:

  • A new a energy-efficient variable air volume HVAC system to serve the addition which connects to the existing heating and cooling plant
  • A Direct Digital Control (DDC) system connected to the facility management system (FMS) for scheduling, monitoring, and automated alerts
  • Programmable LED lighting with occupancy sensors tied into the central lighting control panel
  • Water-conserving fixtures in the locker facility and lavatories
Results

This state-of-the-art facility hosted the prestigious WSF World Masters Squash Championships when it opened in 2018 and continues to support program development efforts by attracting fans and boosting the interest of top-level collegiate recruits.
