The Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to reducing deaths, injuries, and property damage from vehicle crashes on the nation’s roads. Their work informs the insurance industry while also leading the automotive industry in making significant advances in vehicular design and performance. Crash tests that form the basis of its widely consulted vehicle ratings are performed at its facility in Ruckersville, Virginia.
2RW provided MEP/FP engineering for a 29,400 SF expansion and minor renovations to the existing IIHS office and technical spaces. The addition included 34 new offices, a 150-person state-of-the-art conference center, an improved atrium open to the upper levels, and a public lobby. The project involved minor renovations to existing offices for engineers, as well as the addition of a large meeting space, offices, and state-of-the-art crash-testing area.
2RW helped transform the existing facility into a larger, modern facility with improved energy and water efficiency. As a result of the expansion, IIHS was able to consolidate its satellite offices into one central workplace.
