2RW conducted a a demand-side energy audit which entailed a site survey, existing conditions analysis, energy conservation measures, and a summary report. The opportunities that 2RW identified and analyzed to improve cooling and heating strategies ranged from equipment maintenance and replacement to a complete redesign of central cooling and heating plants, distribution systems, and terminal layouts.

The results of the audits and analysis helped the Airport owner and operator:

• Understand the current state of the facility’s electric, natural gas, and water utilities.
• Understand how electricity, gas, and water are used at the facility.
• Identify shortcomings of the systems that use these utilities and recommend opportunities to improve system efficiency.
• Develop plans for improved customer service and growth.

The utility master plan incorporated these findings into long-range plans that enabled the utility infrastructure to keep pace with and enhance future airport expansions.

The quantitative methods 2RW developed to understand the full costs of heating and cooling the airport enabled more-effective management of energy and water resources.
