The Public Safety Center (PSC) encompasses two buildings, the eight-story William G Truesdale Detention Center and the three-story Administrative Offices Building. 2RW conducted the MEP engineering component of the feasibility study to identify existing systems in need of modernization, the future programmatic and space requirements, and help develop renovation cost estimates. 2RW’s scope of work included:

  • Conducting site visits to assess the conditions of the existing (MEP/FP) systems
  • Meeting with each facility’s administrative and maintenance staff to understand their facility requirements and challenges
  • Analyzing the facility energy usage and utility consumption to provide strategic phasing options to improve efficiency and align with the City of Alexandria 2040 energy goals
  • Collaborating with architectural partners to understand the scope of potential building renovations and/or additions
  • Identifying the impact building reconfigurations would have on the existing facility’s infrastructure
  • Recommending replacements or extensions of existing MEP/FP systems to serve renovated or new buildings

The MEP/FP feasibility study will be incorporated into a summary report and subsequent master plan.
