2018 Sustainability Recap

As a leader in green building for 33+ years, 2RW has always been committed to helping building owners save energy. But our commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop with the built environment. We believe it’s critical to be sustainability-focused in all aspects of our business and lives. To that end, we expanded our green commitment with a variety of initiatives and activities in 2018.

In 2018, 2RW GREW…

  • Our commitment to promoting sustainability both internally and externally by launching a Green Team, a group of employees focused on advancing sustainability initiatives in our office, our community, and our lives
  • Our expertise in green building with additional staff accreditations:
  • 1 new LEED AP O+M
  • 3 new LEED Green Associates
  • 1 new TRUE Advisor
  • 1 new WELL AP

We SUPPORTED…

  • Sustainability education, outreach, and advocacy throughout the state by sponsoring USGBC Virginia, the Virginia Energy Efficiency Council (VAEEC), and Resilient Virginia again this year
  • An emerging leader in the green building community by donating a USGBC Virginia membership for a UVa student
  • Local sustainability awareness as a partner in the third annual Charlottesville Better Business Challenge, a friendly competition that helps businesses and organizations of all types and sizes cut energy costs while making a positive impact on the community

And, we helped REDUCE…

  • Solar heat gain and summer cooling loads in our office by installing glare-reducing window film
  • Paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum, and glass waste through an expanded office recycling program
  • Potential environmental and human health risks with a medication take-back and disposal program
  • The amount of denim sent to landfills with a denim drive for Blue Jeans Go Green, a program that turns textile waste into Earth-friendly insulation for community building projects
  • Potential groundwater contamination through a household hazardous waste collection drive
  • Hunger in our communities by donating vegetables from our new organic garden to The Haven, a multi-resource day shelter in Charlottesville, and by sponsoring our partners in Canstruction, a charity that provides canned food to local food banks in cities holding Canstruction building competitions
