As part of the University of Virginia Athletics master plan, the John Paul Jones (JPJ) Arena performance center was renovated to reflect the quality and level of the NCAA championship players and for the ongoing recruitment of first-class talent.
Under our term contract, 2RW served as the prime consultant for the comprehensive renovation of the performance center. 2RW collaborated with UVA staff, ensuring that the renovated space met the specific requirements of athletes and coaches. This collaborative effort was vital in tailoring the space to the unique needs of a high-performance athletic environment.
The MEP design seamlessly integrated HVAC, electrical, and safety upgrades. The HVAC system saw the introduction of new distribution ductwork and piping, coupled with advanced terminal units, optimizing climate control for athletic performance. The electrical overhaul focused on modern, efficient power systems and tailored lighting design to enhance visibility and safety, including tunable white LED technology.
These integrated improvements were crucial in elevating the center’s functionality and safety, aligning it with the top-tier standards of a high-performance athletic facility.
