IT Services Manager

Support Great Engineering Projects from Behind the Scenes
Are you someone who enjoys IT infrastructure and software and keeping the 0s and 1s flowing and fans humming? Do you approach technology with an engineering mindset, always looking for ways to improve processes and get more from the tools people use every day? After more than 20 years of building and maintaining 2RW’s IT environment, our current IT manager is stepping away from the role. We’re looking for someone to build on that strong foundation and guide our IT systems as the firm continues to grow.

About 2RW

2RW is an innovative mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering firm specializing in designing energy-efficient buildings for a diverse range of clients. Our collaborative, small-office environment and commitment to hiring top talent foster the agility and creativity of a startup, supported by over 40 years of proven industry expertise. We are dedicated to shaping a sustainable future and driving positive changes in our environment and communities. By pursuing impactful projects, we empower our clients to excel and create exceptional professional growth opportunities for our engineers. Our work has earned numerous awards for surpassing clients’ energy-saving goals.

The Location

This position offers some flexibility for work that can be completed remotely, but it is not a fully remote role. Initially, regular time in our Charlottesville office will be required for onboarding, training, and familiarization with our systems and operations. Ongoing travel to our Charlottesville, Richmond, and DC Metro offices will be necessary based on project and support needs. With engineering staff in each location, employees can assist with rebooting devices, changing cables, and checking equipment under your direction. So, yes, we can usually skip the “is there power?” step. There may be opportunities to adjust which office houses the primary server equipment to adjust which office is the “primary” office for IT.

  • CHARLOTTESVILLE: Our original office and the current location of our primary server equipment. Work in the heart of Downtown Charlottesville, just a short walk from the historic Downtown Mall, its many shops and restaurants, and Ting Pavilion.
  • DC METRO AREA: Our Fairfax office is a short walk from the Dunn Loring Metro Station and close to numerous dining, shopping, and entertainment options. The building also offers an in-house café for days you would rather stay in the office.
  • RICHMOND: Our Richmond office is near Johnston Willis Hospital and Chesterfield Towne Center, with plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. Whether you need lunch, coffee, or a quick errand, you will find plenty of options. Best of all, parking is easy.

The Opportunity

What You’ll Do
As the IT Services Manager you will be responsible for maintaining the company’s IT systems including internet modem and routers, VPN switches, VOIP phone system, WIFI, Local NAS Servers, Software subscriptions, User PCs and Laptop device servicing, Antivirus, low level hardware repairs/upgrades.

Growth Potential/Other Systems
As 2RW grows, we are open to evolving our IT operations based on industry trends, new technologies, and the insight of the person stepping into this role. Potential areas of focus include:

  • Evaluating cloud storage and local storage solutions.
  • Establishing practical best practices for AI tools and deployment. Several employees currently use AI, and a few have begun experimenting with low-level AI agents built with open-source software. We’re looking for someone who can help us evaluate opportunities thoughtfully without going full Skynet.
  • Implementing a ticketing system to track issues, establish priorities, and plan repairs.
  • Developing an understanding of how engineers use specialized software and identifying ways to improve workflows or leverage advanced features.
  • Supporting access control, security systems, or network video recorders, if desired, although these are not currently a priority.

IT work naturally includes periods of upgrades, PC builds, and software deployments, as well as quieter times that allow you to explore new software and hardware, test ideas, and push the boundaries of what our systems can do. We are interested in hearing what you think you can bring to the role.

As engineers, we are always willing to learn and help with technology and infrastructure needs. Our electrical engineers are usually eager, some more than others, to get their hands dirty, pull cables, and crimp RJ45 connectors when needed.

Why Join 2RW?

  • We work hard to maintain a small company atmosphere across multiple offices. You will have direct access to the firm’s principals to ask questions, present ideas, and recommend improvements.
  • Regular events range from individual office activities to company-wide gatherings and training, giving you opportunities to know the entire firm rather than just a handful of people.
  • We offer a relaxed, casual office environment. You might get caught up in a Nerf war in the Charlottesville office or enjoy an Oreo Blizzard during a game of ping pong in the DC Metro office.
  • You will have the opportunity to “drive the bus” as 2RW adapts to the constantly changing IT landscape.
  • This is a full-time, salaried position. Salary is negotiable based on the responsibilities of the role and the successful candidate’s experience.
