2RW provided commissioning services for the expansion of the Chatham County Detention Center, a 300,000 square foot facility in Savannah, Georgia. This project represented the County’s largest capital improvement project to date and was its inaugural effort to incorporate sustainability principles into County buildings.
The project included three new incarceration buildings for inmate housing and food services which created space and facilities for approximately 1,800 additional inmates — nearly double its previous capacity. It also included a major renovation and expansion of two existing administrative buildings. The project added detention cells, daytime activity rooms, food preparation and service areas, classrooms, offices, loading docks, laundry facilities, an auditorium, a commissary, a storage and warehouse area, a medical clinic, a visitation area, and associated plumbing, mechanical, electrical and security facilities.
