Charlotte County Courthouse Addition

Scope of Services
Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (MEP/FP) Engineering

In 2015, Charlotte County Courthouse was expanded to provide a more-secure and larger space for its circuit, general district, and juvenile and domestic relations courts and its holding cells. A three-story addition was constructed and a corridor was built to connect the new space to the original 1820s-era Jeffersonian building.

Services

2RW designed MEP/FP engineering systems for the three-story addition and corridor. Features of the MEP/FP design that were unique to the courthouse include:

  • Maintenance-friendly MEP/FP systems
  • Quiet and discreet indoor air quality systems that don’t interfere with acoustics or security measures
  • Hydraulic accessibility lifts
  • Secure holding cells with no exposed plumbing, lighting, fire sprinkler, or exhaust systems
Results

The addition provides the space needed to house the circuit, general district, and juvenile and domestic relations courtroom and holding cells. A connector allowed the original structure and addition to be accessed from one entry point with security systems to allow for a more secure environment.
